The Olympic Family
On the eighth session Coubertin was absent. But just this was one of the most significant, due to the fact that one this the dislocation of the games 1908 from Rome to London was decided. In 1903 Rome had applied for the holding of the games and it was accepted, after Berlin had made demands but renounced them in the face of 1912. Until 1906 the Roman organisation committee has not budged, until then that project failed. On that account the offer of the British Olympic fencer William Henry Grenfell has been accepted to perform the games in London. By the way, Grenfell became later Lord Desborough and Great Britain's leading Olympic guider, later even member of the IOC. He was also the guarantor for London's great success.
